Artist's Comments
*Once again I am at a loss for a title, if any of you fair viewer wish to suggest a title, it would be greatly appreciated. And if it's used, the suggester shall forever go down in history as "that person what did go and name that picture", quite the respectable title if I may say so myself.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Holy crap, he actually uploaded something!", the shocked masses shall proclaim! So yeah, I've finally gotten around to actually making something, which will probably be to the surprise of my watchers. For a while now I had kind of lost that little creative spark that made drawing fun, but for the last few days it seems to have come back in full. Hopefully it will hold out long enough to get in a few more pics. Anyway, I ramble, on to the picture! If all goes well this should be the first in a "series" of slightly related pictures, the first few pertaining to this masked firefighter, then moving on to other characters as it continues. I'm pretty much thinking this up as I go so I'm not sure what direction this will go. Oh, if you haven't already guessed, it's about zombies. As for the picture itself, it's made up of three layers, the first being the background. It's not a from scratch image, I wanted to get to you all quickly, so I just sent a stock photo of a street through a few filters and touched it up here and there. The second is the mask and helmet, which is for the most part from scratch. I tried to do the entire thing from memory so the mask has my own special touch to it, much like the mask in Future Perfect [link] I'm rather proud of how it turned out, and am expecially happy that the transparency didn't turn out like utter bull hockey. The third and final layer is the reflection on the mask. Though not a lot of time went into making the reflection itself, getting the damned thing to actually look like a reflection was a pain in the arse... it's probably not even right... But anyway, I really enjoyed making this. It felt good finally get back to making art, again. It's a feeling I really missed. But listen to me getting all sentimental, you didn't come here for that, you came here to point out all the flaws of the picture! So get to it! Tell me what you think of the thing. Good, bad, indifferent, it doesn't matter. made with GIMP 2.4.5 over two days time (on and off) |

you just lost the game.
First thing's first. The mask on the helmet is a bit on the upside-down side. This can easily be remedied by shortening the top of the shielding so that it's aligned with the black, pivoting thingy on the side. Also, the helmets background pivoty thing is bigger than the foreground pivoty thingy.
The curvature on the helmet and the shield is great. The sheen on the glass/polyurethane gives it a nice, worn texture to it. The texture on the helmet, though, is a bit bland. Usually, there's some sort of plaque or symbol in the front of it, telling which fire station they hail from.
Now, the image in the glass is wicked awesome! However, there's a bit of a flaw on the reflection physics (Reflection physics? Seriously?!
Overall, this image really says something. What it's original intention is, I have no idea, but I feel that it has to do a great deal with the apathy/aggression that man feels towards deeds meant for the purpose of good.
It could also be:
1. The prelude to a zombie apocalypse.
2. The manifestation of one's sibling.
3. The manifestation of a feeling for one's self
4. An acapella gone totally awry.
5. A failed attempt at selling a computer to a fire fighter.
6. Or, he forgot to bring his boss's clothes to the dry cleaner's again.

Now that you've brought the mask thing to my attention, it's really starting to bug me. I might go back and fix that later.
I might also add the insignia to the helmet as well. Like I had said, I was going that bit from memory to that seems to have escaped me at the time.
TO HELL WITH YOU AND YOUR REFLECTION PHYSICS! I hated doing that reflection... Now that that's out of the way, I see what you mean, I'll add that to the list o'stuff to fix.
As for your guesses, it is about zombies, though I did mention that in the notes... Your other guesses were... "interesting" to say the least. The thing you need to know about me is I'm not deep, nor is anything I make deep. If it IS or seems deep, then it's unintensionally deep, though it's always nice/fun to see what other people get from my work.
I also like zombies. Big zombie fan. A "fanatic" some would say, I'm prone to agree with them.
Anywho, thank you for the critique and sorry for the wall'o'text retort, not used to having such indepth comments.
